This is your resort. What if you were to invent your own private tropical resort?
Would you demand peace, quiet and privacy? Plenty of dining options? Endless
immaculate beaches? A nature preserve? Boundless activities? Superb accommodations
for one, or two, or everyone you know? On-demand on-island courtesy transportation?
Smooth access for your seagoing vessel? First class golf & tennis? Lush tropical
landscapes? Surf splashed days and breeze-kissed nights? A warm and devoted staff?
We agree on all counts. Which is exactly why and how we have created Kiawah Island
Resort for you. Very near to historic, culturally rich Charleston, South Carolina.
An easy drive, rail trip or flight from where you live. And, by no coincidence, with
everything you ever wanted in a tropical island resort.
Romance. Why did National Geographic Traveler name our beach one of the two most romantic
on the entire east coast? Perhaps it was the sensuous curves of the shoreline as it
gently wraps itself around our island. Or the scent of jasmine wafting in from tropical
gardens just beyond the gently sloping dunes. Or the exquisite shells that beckon by the
trillions at each tides passing. Or the teasing whisper of sea oats in an evening's
breeze. Or the gentle surf that kisses toetips, enticing even the tiniest beachcomber to
dance unafraid in warm subtropical seas. Who can say? When you have walked on its ten
uninterupted miles of immaculate sand, you have your own romantic seasons.
Nature. The Kiawah tribe for whom this lush 10,000 acre barrier island is named, lived
here in the 1600's. But what of the flora and fauna they found here among the beaches,
lagoons and saltmarshes? The 197 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles and amphibians,
and 18 species of mammals, which may have attracted those hunters and fisherman that
remain today. As do forests of tall pines, palmetto palms, magnolias and live oaks.
As a guest of this island you may hike, canoe, or bicycle through forest or marshes on
your own, or as part of a wide array of programs and tours led professional naturalists.
Your patience on an early morn may be rewarded by the sighting of a Greenback Heron,
White Ibis, Wilson's Plover or Peregrine Falcon. Or you may sit on a quiet beach and let
nature come to you, as dozens of Brown Pelicans fly in formation above and dolphins
perform offshore.
Leisure. What is your pleasure today? Why not indulge yourself in an on-island shopping
spree? You need look no further than The Shops at the Kiawah Island Inn for hours of
happy browsing and acquiring. Look for clothing and accessories at a number of shops
including The Kiawah Shop and The Resort Shop. Shop for gifts, toys, food and souvenirs,
jewelry and hundreds of other amusing and delightful items in these lovely shops at the
Kiawah Island Inn. Pause for a snack or light meal along the way. But don't forget to
exercise your right to shop in the Pro Shops you'll find at every Resort golf course and
tennis complex. And be sure to submit to pampering at the salon and at the Kiawah
Therapeutic Massage.
Off Island, sample seasonal local produce and bakery, or peruse the neighboring antique
peddlers. Tour the homes and gardens of historic Charleston. Float in or out of the
marina. Or simply do as so many of our guests have done - sometimes for their entire
visit. Think of all the things you don't have to do at all.
Golf. At Kiawah Island Golf & Tennis Resort golfers tee up against the works of the
masters of modern golf course architecture - Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Clyde Johnston,
Gary Player and Pete Dye. Host of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches and 1997 World Cup of Golf,
