There are few places in the world where time seems reluctant to
move forward. The Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort, tucked away in a
quiet corner of the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley, is one such rare
retreat. Here, majestic oaks and stately sycamores give testimony
to the Alisal's rich history. What began in the late 1700's as a land
grant to conquistador Raimundo Carrillo has, since 1946, been a working
cattle ranch and secluded hideaway. It is a place where the thunder of
hooves and the songs of cowboys still echo across 10,000 acres of wide
open spaces. A place of extraordinary beauty, the Alisal offer opportunities
for both quality leisure time and productive meetings.
The Alisal is a horse lover's paradise: spirited horses match the skills
of the rider, wranglers with years of experience, opportunities to venture
out with private guides in search of unknown adventures. All of this makes
riding at the Alisal a one-of-a-kind experience. Enjoy breakfast rides to
our historic adobe camp, twice-daily group rides, and private rides, to some
of the most beautiful and remote parts of the ranch. This is riding at its
best.
As a golf resort, the Alisal ranks among the best. Two championship 18-hole
courses provide plenty of challenge. The Ranch Course (exclusively for guests
and members) is distinguished by tight fairways, venerable oak, sycamore and
eucalyptus trees and an imposing barranca that winds through the entire course.
The River Course stretches along the Santa Ynez River and provides breathtaking
panoramas of the foothills beyond. A variety of private and group instruction
programs are available at both courses.
If tennis is your game, you've come to the right spot. We offer seven tennis
courts in one of the most scenic sections of our property, complete with a
well-stocked pro shop. One of our resident pros is a nationally-ranked player
and instructor. Our staff offers private and group lessons, and clinics using
the latest teaching techniques. Should you need a partner or wish to arrange
a tournament, we would be happy to handle the details.
The Alisal's combination of fresh air, mild climate and scenic beauty provides
the perfect backdrop for a full range of outdoor activities. At the center of
many of these activities is our 100-acre spring-fed lake, teeming with hungry
bass and bluegill. Sailboats, pedal boats, kayaks, canoes and electric outboards
stand reacy to whisk you across the quiet blue waters. Outdoor enthusiasts find
hiking and mountain biking trails and plenty of wildlife. And, of course, our
heated pool and spa offer year-round swimming.
As is expected from a world-class resort, the Alisal provides a variety of
accommodations to satisfy all guests' needs. Our 73 cottages are warm and inviting,
with high-beamed ceilings, wood-burning fireplaces and private baths. The cottages
are decorated in California ranch design, with touches of Spanish tile and fine
western art throughout. Other amenities include refrigerators with ice makers,
coffee makers, and filtered water dispensers. Suites, with spacious sitting rooms,
are also available. All cottages offer garden views, charming covered porches and
a genuine sense of comfort.
At the Alisal, we operate on a Modified American Plan (breakfast and dinner included).
Breakfasts feature lavish buffets brimming with fresh fruit, homemade baked goods and
your favorite morning entrees, as well as a variety of a-la-carte selections. Dinners
are a time to dress up and enjoy our daily menus featuring the freshest local
ingredients, presented in our frontier-sized portions. To round out your evening, the
Oak Room serves before- and after-dinner drinks with live entertainment nightly for
dancing. During the day, luncheon fare is served at either the main dining room or
informal grills. In summer don't miss our special culinary events such as the western
and seafood barbecues.
