Fiji is a true South Seas paradise of palm-fringed lagoons and intoxicating tropical breezes, but the lure here is by no means just the idyllic setting--it's also the Fijians themselves. We get an insider's experience of Fiji in the company of Keni Madden, the local son and expert kayaker who created this incredible journey for us. As we travel from Taveuni to the Yanucas and lovely Qamea, we kayak in turquoise waters, snorkel over magnificent coral reefs, and are welcomed like family as we partake in local village celebrations. Delightful picnic lunches and sunset fish barbecues are regular features throughout our travels. In additional to the unparalleled sea kayaking and snorkeling, we also explore the rainforests and hidden waterfalls of these enchanted isles.

Exploring Fiji
Departure Dates
  1: Jun 7 - 14, 2003
  3: Jul 5 - 12
  4: Aug 9 - 16
  6: Dec 20 - 27

1: Nadi / Taveuni, Fiji
We meet in Taveuni, the "Garden Isle" of the Fijian archipelago and transfer to traditional-style thatched cottages

2 - 3: Sea Kayaking in Yanucas, Qamea, and the Wild East Coast of Taveuni
Our trip leader grew up not far from the Yanuca Islands and he's related to many of the villagers here. We spend the next few days exploring by kayak, snorkeling and beachcombing. We kayak for 2 or 3 hours most days, with longer options. On Day 4 we transfer to Qamea Island and set up camp in an exquisite bay.

4 - 5: Qamea Island

6 - 8: Taveuni / Depart
We leave our kayaks behind today and settle into thatched cottages on mountainous Taveuni, one of Fiji's most beautiful islands, 'a great place to wind down from our days of paddling.'
